Opening Celebration of the Expanded Syracuse Facilities
Today, we held the opening for our expanded production facility in Syracuse, New York. Blueforsians from across the globe gathered at Syracuse with partners and esteemed guests to celebrate the expansion.
This enlarged facility will increase the production capacity for our Cryomech-branded cryocoolers, enhance our R&D operations in Syracuse, and enable Bluefors to begin manufacturing dilution refrigerators at the site – for the first time in the USA.
Dilution Refrigerator Manufacturing in the US and Increased Cryocooler Production
The expansion of the facility, originally constructed in 2020, will increase the capacity of our Syracuse facilities by almost 45%. It adds more office, manufacturing, warehouse, storage, shipping, and receiving space, increasing cryocooler testing capacity and doubling throughput. In an exciting development, it also enables Bluefors to begin manufacturing dilution refrigerators in the US.
Speaking at the event, Bluefors CEO, Jonas Geust, said: “Our expansion in Syracuse makes Bluefors the biggest manufacturer of dilution refrigerators in the United States. With this investment, we are strengthening our production capabilities and skills to support the growth of the quantum sector, and helping to advance the industrial development of quantum technologies in North America.”
Rich Dausman, President of Bluefors’ Syracuse operations, continued: “This expansion will enable us to increase Cryomech cryocooler production here in Syracuse, and continue pushing the boundaries of cryogenics. It also builds on the historic foundations that Cryomech has established, showing Bluefors’ continued commitment to the Syracuse community.”
The rapidly growing quantum technology industry needs cryogenic systems, such as dilution refrigerators and cryocoolers, to develop applications like quantum computing, quantum communications, and quantum sensing. With this expansion, we are making even greater efforts to support that work.
New Spare Parts Hub for North America
With the newly expanded Syracuse facility, Bluefors continues its commitment to investing in its US operations, and supporting our customers with deeper integration, increased availability, and fast service response times.
As part of the expansion, we are launching a new spare parts hub in Syracuse to directly serve customers in the US and Canada. With dilution refrigerator spare parts now available in Syracuse, our North American customers using the Total System Care service agreement will benefit from an improved service level and shorter delivery times. Continuing Growth in the US
The expansion of our Syracuse facilities lays the groundwork for the future growth of Bluefors operations in the US. With the United States home to more than one third of our employees and many of our customers, expanding our facilities and increasing our presence in the US allows us to better provide locally available support and be closer to our customers.
