The Cryogenic Variable-Temperature Noise Source is used to calibrate the intrinsic noise of a device under test, such as a microwave amplifier.
When installed on the Cold Plate, the noise source can be operated at temperatures between 0.1 K < T < 5 K without causing significant heating in the sample space. Importantly, this dynamic range enables the user to calibrate the noise added by both quantum-limited parametric microwave amplifiers and HEMT amplifiers.
