Sustainability

Our goal is to make a positive impact by advancing technology and research in a responsible way. This requires understanding and actively managing the environmental impact of our operations, while also ensuring a safe and inclusive working environment for our people.

Our Sustainability Approach

We aim to improve how we use energy, materials, and resources across our operations and technologies to advance efficient and sustainable growth. At the same time, we work to ensure that all employees can carry out their work safely each day, retire in good health, and experience wellbeing at work.

At Bluefors, sustainability supports customer needs and long-term business performance, as well as the wellbeing and development of our employees.

Our sustainability approach is built on clear priorities and measurable outcomes. At Group level, we focus on:

Greenhouse Gas Reduction

Our scope 1 & 2 emissions (explanation below) reduction plan includes:

  • Improving energy efficiency in facilities and operations
  • Transitioning to low-carbon electricity and heating
  • Electrifying selected operations and company vehicles

Resource efficiency

We improve resource use across our products and operations by:

  • Developing more energy-efficient cooling technologies
  • Optimizing helium use in our systems
  • Reducing dependency on critical materials

Culture & Safety

Culture

We drive an inclusive, collaborative culture grounded in equal opportunities by:

  • Embedding clear standards through our Code of Conduct and Leadership Principles, supported by training
  • Recognizing diversity as a strength and promoting an inclusive culture across all teams
  • Enabling growth and development through continuous skills development and career opportunities
  • Providing early support to promote employee wellbeing and prevent issues proactively
  • Measuring and improving culture through employee engagement surveys and follow-up actions

Safety

We maintain a safe and responsible working environment by:

  • Embedding safety by design into products, processes, and facilities
  • Taking proactive measures to identify and mitigate potential hazards
  • Ensuring safe working conditions across all operations by providing training, monitoring safety KPIs, and applying consistent incident investigation practices

Site-level Actions

At the Group level, we define direction and targets, while implementation takes place at our sites through practical actions and continuous improvement.

At site level, we also work to reduce environmental impacts in daily operations by:

  • Managing waste and recycling
  • Keeping materials and products in use for as long as possible
  • Extending product lifecycles through refurbishment and predictive maintenance

Bluefors is certified to ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety). These management systems provide a structured framework for managing environmental impact, ensuring safe operations, and develop our business.

Explanation of GHG emission scopes

Scope 1 covers all direct emissions – emissions from sources (assets and operations) that we own or directly control. These include company facilities and company vehicles.

Scope 2 covers indirect emissions from the energy inputs that power our operations. This involves emissions related to the generation and consumption of electricity, steam, heating, and cooling.

Scope 3 covers emissions from sources we indirectly affect through our value chain, including both upstream and downstream activities. For example, emissions related to suppliers, transportation, and product usage all fall under scope 3.
