Measurement System

The LDHe Measurement System is a versatile helium system that allows you to conduct experiments down to 1 K or 0.5 K.

The LDHe Measurement System allows you to conduct experiments down to 1 K or 0.5 K. The different base temperatures depend on the helium isotopes used, with 1 K achieved using helium-4, and 0.5 K achieved with helium-3.

There are two different models of the system available: LD250He and LD400He. The key difference between these systems is the Gas Handling System used. The LDHe system can be upgraded to a Dilution Refrigerator Measurement System at any later stage.

Extensive Capabilities for Experimental Wiring 

The system offers a variety of access ports between the Room Temperature Flange and Evaporator Flange for experimental wiring. 

  • 2 x ISO-K63 slotted in all flanges 
  • 5 x KF40 including central port 

High, Continuous Cooling Power 

The main advantage of the LDHe System is its Gas Handling System, which is of a robust size to provide the high and continuous cooling power of the system. In addition, the system can be operated with either helium-3 or helium-4. The typical base temperature, below 500 mK, is easily achievable with 7 liters of the helium-3 as an operational gas. Temperatures below 900 mK are achievable with helium-4. 


Large Experimental Space

The Evaporator Flange diameter is 303 mm. 


Upgrade to a Dilution Refrigerator Measurement System

The LDHe Measurement System is an LD System without the dilution unit. It is possible to upgrade it to a Dilution Refrigerator Measurement System at any later stage. The upgrade can be completed with an on-site installation in 3–4 days. 

The LD250He model can be further upgraded to a full LD250 Dilution Refrigerator Measurement System, and the LD400He model to an LD400 System.


Temperature Controller

The Bluefors Temperature Controller enhances the user experience of our cryogenic systems. With a modern and intuitive user interface, you get direct control and overview of the temperature status of the system. The Bluefors Temperature Controller is fully integrated to the system.

Note: The cooling power is measured on the Evaporator Flange. The cooldown time to base temperature is measured on an empty system with a standard sample space and shield set. Note that with the different Gas Handling Systems, different operating temperatures can be reached with the helium-3 systems. The LD400He model can be operated up to ~0.9 K, whereas the LD250He model has an upper limit of 0.7 K.

Layout Overview

Each of our systems is designed to be installed to a specific location defined in advance. A separate layout drawing is made for each Bluefors system, which should always be referred to for exact dimensions.

Facility Requirements
