Dilution Refrigerator Measurement System

The SD Dilution Refrigerator Measurement System is an affordable system with a fast turnaround time.

Fast Turnaround Dilution Refrigerator

To create a fast turnaround cryogenic refrigerator, we revived the form factor of our first cryogen-free dilution refrigerator measurement system. Our SD system delivers a cooldown time of < 12 hours, providing a cooling power of > 250 μW when operated at 100 mK.

The system requires no lab layout or on-site installation, and with the reduced step heat exchanger stage, the required amount of helium-3 is only 12 liters, making the system effective and affordable.

Dilution Refrigerator Measurement System

Fully Automated Operation

Fully automated cooldown sequence from room to base temperature, initiated with a single push of a button.

Effective Design

The dilution unit is positioned off-center to provide maximum useful experimental space on all flanges.

Compact Layout

The SD system has a compact layout as the Control Unit is integrated into the Gas Handling System and the dimensions of the system frame are only 1 410 mm by 1 000 mm. The system also doesn’t require a lab layout or on-site installation, but it’s still recommended for new customers.

Three Access Ports

  • 2 x KF40
  • 1 x KF25.

Superior Performance

  • Base temperature well below 30 mK
  • Fast cooldown: < 12 hours to 30 mK (measured on an empty system).

Temperature Controller

The Bluefors Temperature Controller enhances the user experience of our cryogenic systems. With a modern and intuitive user interface, you gain direct control and overview of the system’s temperature status.

The Bluefors Temperature Controller is fully integrated to all dilution refrigerator measurement systems.

Low Total Cost of Ownership

Oil-free pumps and compressors in the Gas Handling System guarantee minimal maintenance requirements with service interval up to 3 years. The systems contain only high-quality components such as Pfeiffer Vacuum pumps and pressure sensors, VAT vacuum valves and bellows.

Dilution Refrigerator Measurement System

Cryomech Pulse Tube Cryocoolers with remote motors provide cryogenic cooling power to the dilution refrigerator measurement system without the need for liquid cryogens. The cooldown time of the system partly depends on the selected pulse tube power.

There are three pulse tube models available for the SD System: PT410-RM (default), PT415-RM, PT420-RM, and PT425-RM. The upgraded Pulse Tube models provide increased cooling power at the 4K Flange.

New: PT310-RM configuration is now available. Learn more here.

Above is a typical cooldown curve for a SD system measured with a calibrated resistance thermometer.

Pulse Pre-Cooling sequence is one of the key points in reducing the cooldown time (see spots 2 and 3). Because we do not use exchange gas, some parts of the dilution refrigerator unit stay ‘hot’ during cooldown, which prevents condensation of the helium3 –helium-4 mixture. To cool down these hot spots effectively, the mixture is repeatedly admitted from the tanks to the Still side of the dilution refrigerator to operate as an exchange gas and then pumped out again.
