Bluefors Introduces a Rack‑Mountable Compressor for the PT205 Pulse Tube Cryocooler
SYRACUSE, NY, US, March 16, 2026: Bluefors today announced a significant expansion in the capabilities of the Cryomech PT205 Pulse Tube Cryocooler with the introduction of a new rack-mountable, air-cooled 1.1 kW CPA010 compressor. This update brings even greater flexibility for the PT205, giving researchers and system designers a cleaner and more efficient way to integrate cryogenic cooling into their setups.
The PT205 is already recognized as one of the most compact and efficient cryocoolers in its class. Designed for applications that require reliable cooling in the 2–4 K range, such as superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs), the PT205 delivers more than 10 mW of cooling power at 2.5 K with exceptionally low vibration and long service intervals.
The CPA010 compressor is a new enhancement that makes the PT205 even more versatile. The CPA010 is compact, air-cooled, and also available in a rack-mountable form factor.
The PT205’s compact cold head—just 11 inches (28 cm) long and weighing 19 lbs. (8.6 kg)—already enables easy integration into space-restricted environments. With the addition of the rack-mountable compressor, the complete PT205 system becomes an even more flexible solution for users building dense, modular, rack-based infrastructure. When fitted into standard 19” equipment racks, users can streamline installations, improve cable and line management, and reduce the footprint of their cryogenic system.
Paired with the PT205, the new compressor maintains an energy-efficient 1.1 kW power consumption while providing a clean and organized installation option for data centers, labs, and integrated systems. With its compact size, low vibration operation, low cost-of ownership, and long maintenance interval of 40 000 hours, the powerful new combination of CPA010 and PT205 delivers long-term, hands-free operation in research and industrial environments.
