Operating in the 20–80 K temperature range, they efficiently condense liquid cryogens such as hydrogen, nitrogen, and argon with consistent cooling power between 10 W and 600 W. 20-30K Gifford-McMahon Cryocoolers

From hydrogen liquefaction to fusion research, our 20-30K cryocoolers are a versatile solution for both industrial use and research applications, providing extremely powerful cooling in the 20 K temperature range. They are widely used to cool high-temperature superconducting applications or hydrogen fuel cells used in zero emission aviation.

From this class, the AL630 Gifford-McMahon Cryocooler sets the benchmark, delivering 100 W of cooling capacity at 20 K — the most powerful GM cryocooler in our portfolio.

80K Gifford-McMahon Cryocoolers

Our 80K Gifford-McMahon cryocoolers are ideal for applications that require nitrogen or argon gas to be condensed into liquid form. Engineered for demanding environments, they maintain consistent, robust cooling even under high thermal loads, and are used across numerous research, medical, and industrial settings, from superconducting power delivery to neutrino detection scintillators.

The AL600 Gifford-McMahon Cryocooler offers the highest cooling performance of our 80 K cryocooler range, delivering 600 W of cooling capacity at 80 K.

The Original GM Cryocoolers

Cryomech’s founder William Gifford is the Gifford in Gifford-McMahon, and was part of the team that invented the technology over 60 years ago. Since William Gifford developed the first commercial GM Cryocooler in 1963, over 20 different baseline Cryomech models have been introduced. The vast experience in cryocooler design and manufacturing accumulated by the Cryomech product team continues to fuel cryocooler product development at Bluefors.
