High-Density Wiring
Measurement Infrastructure
High-Density Wiring delivers best-in-class signal integrity, low crosstalk, and robust reliability for large-scale quantum applications and cryogenic research.
Our industry-leading High-Density Wiring (HDW) is available for Bluefors side-loading systems, enabling the large scale-up of experimental wiring, especially for high-frequency signals. HDW offers best-in-class signal integrity, low crosstalk, and robust reliability.
In a high-density setup, each side-loading port in Bluefors XLDsl and LDsl Systems can be equipped with up to 168 high-frequency lines. This totals up to 1008 lines on an XLDsl System.
The modular, side-loading format of HDW enables easy assembly and maintenance for large wiring infrastructures.

High-Density Wiring
Measurement Infrastructure
Best-In-Class Signal Integrity
High-Density Wiring features best-in-class signal integrity, with high return loss, low ripples, and extremely low crosstalk between lines up to 18 GHz.
In addition to excellent high-frequency performance, Bluefors HDW semi-rigid coaxial cables are engineered to maintain consistent impedance and minimize insertion loss, even under demanding operating conditions.
The use of high-quality materials and precise manufacturing processes reduces signal degradation, making these cables ideal for applications where pristine signal fidelity is critical.
All cables have robust shielding to effectively protect against external electromagnetic interference, ensuring that sensitive measurements and transmissions remain unaffected by environmental noise.
Robust Reliability
Our High-Density Wiring platform is mechanically robust and extremely reliable—a result of our long experience in designing and building cryogenic wiring solutions.
We thoroughly test all our wiring at both room and millikelvin temperatures, so you don’t need spend valuable time validating your setup. Our rigorous testing guarantees the performance of HDW once the cryostat is cold. And we back up that guarantee with a standard 24-month warranty for each HDW tree.
With hundreds of HDW trees delivered to customers around the world, our wiring solutions provide proven performance for quantum research labs and advanced cryogenic setups.
For Large Scale Experiments
HDW is ideal for experiments requiring large numbers of high-frequency signals spanning from DC to 18 GHz.
Each side-loading port in the XLDsl and LD450sl side-loading systems can be equipped with up to 168 high-frequency lines—totalling up to 1008 lines in an XLDsl System, and 336 lines in an LD450sl System.
HDW has minimal thermal load, and the thermalization properties of our coaxial wiring have been thoroughly characterized (Simbierowicz et al., PRX Quantum 5, 030302 (2024)). The contribution of our cables and attenuators to the overall noise environment is not only minimized but also quantitatively understood and measured.
Easy Assembly and Maintenance
The High-Density Wiring form factor facilitates thermalizing and installing components into the system easily. The modular design provides easy assembly and maintenance for large wiring infrastructures.
Assembly preparation can be performed on a workbench while the system is running, and quickly exchanged when the system reaches room temperature.

Flexible, Open, and Ready for Integration
HDW features open-standard SMPM connectors for broad compatibility with other measurement infrastructure products and gives flexibility in system design. The modular form factor enables easy integration of custom components with multiple high-density channels, such as filters and attenuators.
Bluefors works internally and together with the quantum hardware development community to advance cryogenic measurement infrastructure for large-scale wiring solutions utilizing our side-loading form factor.

The High-Density Wiring coaxial cable materials are 0.86 mm SCuNi and NbTi. More information about the cable type can be found below.
Coaxial cables have a bandwidth up to 18 GHz and are arranged in rows of 12, with each row equipped with an SMPM female multi-connector.
High-Density Wiring is sold in sets of 24, with a maximum of 7 sets per port. At each temperature stage of the system, an attenuator block can be mounted and mated to the SMPM multi-connector cable assembly.
At room temperature, HDW is equipped with a hermetic interface for a total of 168 lines. This interface is always provided (regardless of the number of High-Density Wiring sets purchased) to ensure full upgradability in the future. The hermetic feedthrough consists of 14 modules, each with 12 lines.
The High-Density Wiring coaxial cable materials are 0.86 mm SCuNi and NbTi. These cables support bandwidths up to 18 GHz and are arranged in rows of 12, each row equipped with an SMPM female multi-connector. The connectors follow a modular design, allowing up to 14 rows per port.

At each temperature stage of the system an attenuator block can be mounted and mated to SMPM multi-connector cable assembly. Each attenuator block has two rows with 12 channels, and each row of channels can be selected to have one attenuation value (0 dB, 1 dB, 3 dB, 6 dB, 10 dB, 20 dB or 30 dB). The wiring set ends at the Mixing Chamber stage to an attenuator block with full-detent male SMPM connectors.

The side-loading feature allows wiring to be assembled onto the installation set flanges on a workbench. Consequently, the preparation of a wiring assembly or even a full experiment can be performed while the system is running.
When the system is warmed to room temperature, the assembly can be quickly exchanged, greatly reducing the room temperature idle time. Preparing and exchanging the assembly is carried out using a dedicated installation tool that provides mechanical stability and ensures the correct spacing of the flanges when mounting the assembly into the cryostat.
