Versatile Applications

From hydrogen liquefaction to fusion research, the AL630 GM Cryocooler is a versatile solution for both industrial use and research applications, providing extremely powerful cooling in the 20 K temperature range.

The AL630 is ideally suited for cooling high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets and other critical components. For example, in fusion energy research it is used to cool the superconducting containment field coils.

Another popular application in the 20 K range is hydrogen liquefaction, where cryocoolers are used to maintain the low temperatures necessary for the liquefaction process. Here, the AL630 can be used to cool storage units or hydrogen-powered equipment, such as hydrogen fuel cells. Its excellent reliability and power to performance ratio make it a key enabler in the pursuit of cleaner energy.

The AL630 is also ideal for use in cold helium circulation systems, where it helps pre-cool magnets and reduce the consumption of valuable liquid helium.

The slower cycle speeds of the AL630 reduce wear on moving parts—especially the displacer mechanism, which is key to its cooling cycle. The reduction in wear results in extended service intervals, with a mean time between maintenance of 10 000 operating hours, making it the ideal choice for continuous-use environments. Additionally, most unit maintenance can be carried out on location, so there’s even less disruption to your work.
