Dilution Refrigerator Operation and Maintenance Training

Effective training in the use of dilution refrigerators is essential for users to have confidence to independently operate, maintain, and troubleshoot systems. Our training program is designed to educate new users, and offer advanced training for existing users on the working principles and functions of Bluefors systems.

Training provides knowledge, includes hands-on exercises, and builds confidence in understanding the working principles of Bluefors systems, to support their effective operation. Our training program is provided by Bluefors Cryo Engineers on-site for 1–3 days. Training participants will receive a certificate of professional development and training materials will be provided.

The training consists of two standard modules: Basic and Maintenance. The training modules can be customized according to the end-user needs​. Each training module can also be sold as a stand-alone visit, or in addition to visits such as relocations, reconfigurations, or installations of new or refurbished components.

Best Practices for Operation

During on-site training, your team will learn the best practices for operating dilution refrigerators, which is helpful if they were not present during the original system installation.

Services

The Basic Training module provides an introduction to the working principles, best practices, troubleshooting, and standard operating procedures of the Bluefors systems and components. It is intended for customers who have never operated a Bluefors cryostat or need refresher training.

A presentation with hands-on training is provided to demonstrate the operating cycle, starting with cooldown, normal operation, and system warm-up. Furthermore, basic maintenance and troubleshooting procedures are discussed.

After the training, you will have sufficient knowledge to perform these actions:

  • Plan and perform basic routine maintenance and maintenance intervals on the system.
  • Explain the working mechanism of the cryostat.
  • Independently operate the Bluefors cryostat.

Services

The Maintenance Training module provides users with in-depth maintenance training for the optimal performance of every Bluefors system. This also provides users with information on troubleshooting different failure modes.

A presentation with hands on training is provided to demonstrate these procedures:

  • Maintenance of pumps.
  • Cleaning valves.
  • Adjusting the BPV threshold.
  • Calibrating gauges.

After this training, you will have sufficient knowledge to perform independent maintenance routines on the compressor and gas handling system.
