Bluefors systems can accommodate various optical fibers from Room Temperature to the Mixing Chamber Flange.

We offer a solution to install Optical Fibers from room temperature to the sample space, based on hermetic fiber feedthrough bulkheads with either FC/PC or FC/APC connectors. This approach offers both flexibility and easy service of the fiber lines.

Most commercially available optical fibers can be used with this solution, with respect to wavelength and polarization maintaining properties. Our solutions include polarization maintaining, single mode, and multimode fibers, with most common wavelength ranges available.

Optical Fibers

Optical fiber installation sets are available in two different configurations, with a smaller box outside the cryostat for 1–4 fibers or a larger box for 1–8 fibers. Both are available for KF25 and KF40 ports. Optical feedthroughs are available in M10 and M12 sizes and the fibers are ordered according to your needs.

We offer special patch cords that are optical fibers adapted to low-temperature and high-vacuum applications by optimizing the fiber assemblies with a Polyimide coating and very low outgassing adhesive to seal the fiber’s ferrule. The typical operating temperature range of the patch cords is 0.05−3 Kelvin. Both M10 and M12 form factors are available.

The patch cords are routed into the cryostat through hermetic feedthroughs that ensure a high level of hermeticity, better than 10-8 mbar l/s.

These feedthroughs are built with an internal fiber rod identical to the fiber used upstream and downstream. Both M10 and M12 form factors are available. Depending on these sizes, the feedthroughs can be made with polarization maintaining (PM) fibers as well as with any single mode (SM) fibers. They can also come with multimode (MM) graded index (GI) fibers or step index (SI) fibers.

For fibers with a maximum cladding diameter of 125 µm, the feedthroughs can be terminated with FC/PC or FC/APC connectors. For core diameters up to 1000 µm, the feedthroughs come with SMA termination.

The optical fiber installation set is mounted on any of the available KF25 or KF40 ports. Solutions also exist for installation into side-loading ports.

The installation sets at RT can accommodate either 4 or 8 M10/M12-size feedthroughs for each port. To guide the fibers down to MXC Flange and for thermalization purposes, a fiber clamp holder is anchored to each temperature stage flange. The fibers are terminated in an FC/PC or FC/APC bulkhead.
